I was a bit wary of approaching material that also has a very serious side and often terrible consequences, but you’ve hit exactly the point: the people involved usually have no idea what they’re doing and are completely out of their depth. The comedy could have been darkened even further if everyone had spent a lot of time posturing about how serious they were — but we have to put up with that quite enough in the real world!
