“ I applaud what the hipsters have done for the culinary landscape. They are like garden worms. They do wonderful things for the soil, and their presence is a sign of a healthy garden — but you never want to see one up close.”. Ha!!
This was great and I will go to the pub whenever you want. I bring my own book.
I am doing a degree in philosophy and classics late in life and I write my essays at the Grain Barge. I invariably get someone ask me about my books on the table, and we end up talking about existentialism for an hour, or Orpheus and Eurydice. Several of the bar staff have started an art club, downstairs on Thursday nights.
The Portcullis still has those old-fashioned stools at the bar, and in recent months, I have discussed Sir Ernest Shackleton with the man who made a documentary about him (we have both visited his grave in South Georgia) and talked about city planning in Portland, Oregon (I used to live there). There is always someone interesting.
There are plenty of cool people out there who don't care about football. You just have to go to the right pubs.
Can’t wait to see which flavor of conspiracy theory she’ll peddle!

This was entirely too real
